Dr.
Jay M. Reed, our Minister of Music, is no stranger to either music or
ministry. As a young boy, he sang in choirs as a boy soprano, and alto,
and later a bass. In 1951 he came to know the Lord while at Word of
Life Camp in Schroon Lake, New York. A native of Pennsylvania, he
graduated from the Philadelphia Bible Institute in 1955 and later earned
a BA in Christian Education from Providence-Barrington Bible College. He
served thirteen years as a missionary with the Bible Club Movement in
several states. In 1970, the Lord led him to be the Minister of
Christian Education at Westbrae Bible Church in Berkeley, CA. He later
served in the Vallejo Bible Church as Education Pastor. This was
followed by eight years as Registrar and professor at the Chinese (at
that time, the California) Bible College in San Francisco and
Burlingame, and has been the secretary for the Chinese Bible Mission for
32 years. In addition to his undergraduate degree, Dr. Reed holds a
MABS, M. Div, and D. Min. where the focus of his dissertation was
ministry to the senior community. He has directed choirs in North
Carolina, Colorado, and both churches in California before joining us at
Vacaville Bible Church in 1983.
Dr. Reed has a passion for reading, and holds a personal library containing an estimation of 6,000 books. He and his wife, Ethel, have been married 52 years, and have three adopted children, one granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren. Their son, Jonathan, is also a member of VBC and joins them in the choir.
